What is Virtual On-Demand Training (VODT)?

VODT combines video lectures by an expert instructor with on-demand, remote access to hands-on labs – the same labs that you would perform in an instructor-led course. You also receive the full student guides and lab guides that you would receive in an instructor-led course, which are downloadable in PDF format. If you have a technical issue with the virtual learning environment, you have access to our User Support team. If you have a technical question about the course content or need something explained further, you have access to an expert instructor via email through our Ask the Experts feature. Learn more.

How is Virtual On-Demand Training (VODT) different from Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT)?

Both VILT and VODT are conducted virtually, which means that students can take the course from their own home or office. However, VILT is a scheduled event that takes place during a specific week and includes live instruction by an expert instructor over a conference call line. VODT is a completely virtual training experience with recorded video lectures and remote access to hands-on labs, and it is not scheduled.

How long to I have access to a VODT course?

You have 45 days from the time that you begin to complete the course, and a specific number of allocated lab hours that you may use anytime during those 45 days. The 45-day period does not start when you purchase or register for a course; it starts when you log in to the learning environment and click Begin Course (however, you must use your 45 days within 1 year of purchase).

What are the technical requirements for a VODT course?

The course videos run in a Brightcove video player that is supported by all major browsers, including Internet Explorer (10+), Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Safari. For specific supported browser versions, click here. The course labs run in a Hatsize virtual learning environment. See Minimum requirements and Browsers, firewalls and proxy settings supported for detailed requirements on accessing and running the virtual labs. You can test your lab access from the location and computer you will be using for the course by running the virtual lab system checker.

How do I register and pay for a Veritas certification exam and what is the cost?

View the step-by-step instructions on how to purchase exam vouchers.

The cost is $225 USD per exam, or your country’s currency equivalent. Veritas reserves the right to change exam fees at any time. Always check the delivery vendor’s website to verify exams costs, schedules and locations.

NOTE: Pearson VUE does not accept credit card payments in the following countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Benin, Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Lebanon, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo and Uganda.

  • Candidates in these countries may arrange for payment directly with the test center where they plan to test or purchase a voucher and pay by bank transfer.
  • Since Pearson delivers Veritas exams via the third-party channel, each test center establishes their own guidelines surrounding the payment methods they will accept. Most centers in these countries are prepared to assist these candidates to overcome this restriction.
What is the CertTracker account used for?

Your CertTracker account is used for registering for exams and keeping track of all of your Veritas certification exams and certification statuses.

Candidates are responsible for updating their personal information in the tracking system to ensure receipt of official correspondence.

You can verify your credentials to any email address by logging in to CertTracker and selecting the “Publish Credentials” option. Although we provide electronic certificates and the ability for a successful candidate to print a copy of that certificate, we stress that the only true verification of certification credentials comes from a certified individual securely publishing their credential directly to the interested party (i.e., manager, recruiter) through this method.

How will I be notified that I have passed an exam?

Pearson VUE provides you with instant results at the completion of your exam. A score report will be printed and given to you before you leave the testing center. Candidates are also able to view exam progress by logging in to CertTracker

When and how do I receive a certificate stating that I am Veritas Certified and what will I receive?

Once Veritas has received your exam results, your certificate will be e-mailed to you within 2 or 3 days. It is sent to the e-mail address provided by the candidate in their CertTracker account. You can verify and update your preferred e-mail address in CertTracker. You will only receive the electronic certificate; paper copies are not available.

The welcome e-mail for Veritas exams contains a link to an official certificate and access to a Veritas Certified Specialist (VCS) or Veritas Certified Professional (VCP) logo for placement on personal business cards.

How long is a Veritas certification designation valid? When do certifications expire?

Veritas Certified Specialist certifications have no expiration date. When certification verification is required, Veritas will identify the product version, thus distinguishing between those who have upgraded certifications and those who haven’t. Veritas highly recommends recertification to remain current with Veritas technology and trends. View the listing of current Veritas Certified Specialist exams.

If I do not pass an exam, can I find out which questions I got wrong?

No. Veritas maintains this policy to ensure security over the exam questions.

How many times can I take an exam, is there a waiting period, and is there a cost to retake an exam?

If you do not pass an exam on your first attempt, you must wait at least 3 days (72 hours) before a second attempt. If you do not pass an exam on your second attempt, then you must wait at least 2 weeks (14 days) between each additional attempt. The same cost applies to each attempt.

How can I find out what topics an exam will cover and are there practice exams available?

Certification requirements, exam topics and recommended training is available for each certification exam. Sample exams are also available. Each sample exam consists of multiple-choice items. For more information on specific certifications, please see the certification exam details.

Is training required in order to become Veritas Certified?

Veritas strongly recommends taking specific courses prior to attempting a certification exam. These courses are not required and are available for those who do not meet the minimum level of competence as tested by the exam. Veritas also recommends a minimum of 6 months of experience using the referenced product(s) before attempting an exam.

Are the exams based on current Veritas product versions and how do I know which software release an exam covers?

Exams are developed for the current version of the Veritas product release at the time of development and are named accordingly. Exams may be updated after significant new versions are released, however, new exams may not always correspond to the software release schedule.

How are passing scores established?

Although it is intuitive to think that an appropriate passing score for an examination should be 70 or 75 percent correct based on personal experiences taking classroom tests, these arbitrary values may not reflect the performance level expected of the “minimally qualified candidate” given the difficulty of the test. For example, if the examination is very easy, a passing score of 70 may be too low. However, if the examination is very difficult, this same value may be too high.

Establishing passing scores requires the application of systematic procedures that consider the defined performance level definition of the “minimally qualified candidate” and the difficulty of the examination. Before the final passing scores are established, they are evaluated to ensure that the available validity evidence supports their use for the intended purpose of distinguishing the “minimally qualified candidates” from those who are not yet qualified. This systematic method is used to establish and maintain the fairness, validity and reliability of exams.

In order to ensure the value of the Veritas certification programme, Veritas routinely updates exams with new questions. In these cases the passing percentage could change per exam from time to time as these unannounced updates occur.

When will certification exams retire?

Many of the Veritas certification exams will be replaced by a newer product version of the exam as technology and trends continue to evolve. Legacy exams may be phased out from our website after a newer version of the exam is released. Legacy exams published with Pearson VUE may still be available on their website, as Veritas recognizes that legacy product versions will continue to hold their value in the marketplace as long as there is a demand from the industry.
