Meet Nasrin (Ni Ni) Yarmo, director of Product Management, who joined Veritas as part of the Globanet acquisition in October 2020. She currently manages teams that work in the Yerevan location and is also the site leader, overseeing several technical teams and engineers, such as Quality Assurance, Dev Ops, and Development.
“My scope of responsibilities include ensuring the overall health of the Yerevan organization, from the quality and value of its product releases, all the way to the well-being of its staff, organization, and promoting the Veritas’ brand.”
The short answer to this question is thinking ahead. I knew that the world was changing, so to be on the path of the most opportunities for success, I needed to go into the technology field to advance my life and be a good role model for my children.
What keeps me at Veritas is very simple: I’m surrounded by wonderful people who understand the value of my work and allow me to grow. The people that I work with help me overcome the day-to-day challenges of my job in a much enjoyable manner. I really enjoy my job.
Your role transforms the future of solutions and products at Veritas. Can you tell us about a project you worked on that you found most rewarding?
My most rewarding project was delivering Alta Capture (Merge17) – there were so many challenges to overcome. While being new at Veritas, we had to adapt to new ways and processes while developing a multi-tenant product. We encountered not only resource issues at our Yerevan location, but also many technology issues while integrating with the EVC environment. Aggressive timelines, coupled with implementing a brand-new architecture that could still thrive, was challenging yet so rewarding. Our product needed to serve the demanding changes of the market ahead. Another part of the exciting challenge was educating and collaborating with new team members, which was so rewarding in the end. The most rewarding experiences are often the most challenging.
I don’t let any external factors such as gender hinder my success. Just because I’m female, I don’t consider myself less capable than others. I know that no matter who you are, you have to work super hard to be the best at what you do. I never for a moment thought that I couldn’t achieve what I wanted to because of my gender – I wouldn’t allow it. So, the short answer is really “so what.”
Always stay on top of your work and do as you say and commit to it. The key to success is having the knowledge and ability to express your opinion and not be afraid of making mistakes. You can only know if you’re doing this correctly by learning from your mistakes, being honest about admitting to them, and making sure that they won’t happen again. Don’t care about what your title is, and just focus on winning while creating great relationships with your colleagues and be humble. Always go the extra mile to help each other create a winning team where everyone enjoys success – not just you. A leader is nothing without the support of their teams.
