Veritas is excited to announce that Veritas has received Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation Certification for NetBackup v9.1.0.1 with an Evaluation Assurance Level 2+ (EAL2+) designation.
Security is more important than ever for data protection, particularly when it comes to the United States public sector and global government deployments. Governments at every level are targets of numerous security threats that can jeopardize sensitive data wherever it resides. The Common Criteria certification is an arduous achievement that illustrates Veritas’ commitment to delivering the most secure data protection solution in the market.
Veritas’ initial Common Criteria certification was for NetBackup v8.2 and NetBackup 5240 Appliance Release 3.2. Veritas changed strategies this time so that the Common Criteria certification would be applicable to all NetBackup Appliances and NetBackup Flex Appliances, irrespective of model, that run NetBackup v9.1.0.1 based appliance releases. This is the first time that NetBackup Flex Appliances have received Common Criteria certification.
The Common Criteria is an international set of specifications and guidelines for evaluating information security products. Competent and independent licensed laboratories evaluate each product to determine if it meets security requirements.
The Common Criteria organization and participants are driven by a set of shared objectives, fostering collaboration and mutual benefit, including:

In the NetBackup v9.1.0.1 Certification Report, the target of evaluation (TOE) software components can be found in the Security Target document.
The TOE was tested with the NetBackup 5250 Appliance and Flex 5350 Appliance simultaneously in the environment. However, the TOE also runs on the following appliances with the same functionality as the evaluated configurations, and thus applicable to the certification: NetBackup 5240, 5330, 5340, and 5350 Appliances and Flex 5150, 5250, and 5340 Appliances.
