Upgrade Overview

Current Veritas customers with maintenance or support for any Veritas product are entitled to a free software version upgrade for any new release of that product or its successor. 

Maintenance and support are purchased or subscribed to for a specific period of time.  "Current" means this period of time has not lapsed or been terminated and the support agreement is in effect.

Veritas On-Premise Software Products

Veritas continually brings technology advances to your software investments so that customers, who have an active maintenance/support agreement, get ongoing performance and other improvements. 

Customers can get a free software version upgrade for each qualified product currently covered by an active maintenance/support agreement. Eligible license owners are notified of the version upgrade opportunity by Veritas and given instructions for how to get the new software.

Notification for Software Version Upgrade

Notification of a Software Version Upgrade automatically occurs via email. Each active member of the customer’s Licensing Portal account will receive the Software Version Upgrade notification. 

If a notification does not reach a customer by email, the license owner may visit the Licensing Portal to access the pending upgrade opportunity using the following steps: 

  1. Login into MyVeritas.
  2. Select the Licensing tab to access the Licensing Portal.
  3. Select the Licensing Portal Home page and refer to the Recent Notifications section to see the latest communications from Veritas including Software Version Upgrade notifications.

How Software Version Upgrades Occurs

Upon a major release of a new version of software, Veritas notifies customers by email of their Software Version Upgrade. The notification provides instructions to access the pending upgrade opportunity. Some notifications will direct customers to the Veritas Licensing Portal for processing a Software Version Upgrade invitation.

Which Veritas Products Get a Software Version Upgrade? Any product from Veritas that has a major new release automatically includes a Software Version Upgrade

Importance of Keeping Maintenance/Support Current

Customers who do not keep their maintenance/support agreements current lose: 

  • Free access to the latest product upgrades.
  • Product functionality and fixes available under maintenance/support.

Allowing maintenance/support to lapse can put your business environment at unnecessary risk. 

 

Version upgrades FAQ

Customers with current maintenance/support subscriptions are entitled to upgrade software copies for free to the new upgrade version. Veritas is committed to providing customers and channel partners with an outstanding upgrade experience.

What is a Software Version Upgrade and who is eligible?

Software Version Upgrade is a new version of software available for free to customers with current maintenance/support for their existing version of the software. It is available on the date of the release of the new software. Veritas will notify eligible customers of this entitlement.

If I do not receive a Software Version Upgrade notification, how can I find out if I am entitled to a free Software Version Upgrade?

You are able to see your Software Version Upgrade notifications on the Veritas Licensing portal using the following steps:

  1. Login into MyVeritas.
  2. Select the Licensing tab to access the Licensing Portal.
  3. Select the Licensing Portal Home page and refer to the Recent Notifications section to see the latest communications from Veritas including Software Version Upgrade notifications.
When will I receive my notification?

Veritas will send Software Upgrade Notifications to eligible customers starting on the product release date.

Who is the recipient of the Software Version Upgrade notification?

How do I download my software?
  1. Login into MyVeritas.
  2. Select the Licensing tab to access the Licensing Portal.
  3. Select the Entitlement tab to get the Entitlement view.
  4. Using the Entitlement search function, locate the Entitlement you wish to deploy.
  5. Click on the Entitlement ID link to access the software.
  6. Select the Current Version tab.
  7. Click the Download button next to the new version and follow the step indicated to download the software.
How do I activate my software?
  1. Login into MyVeritas.
  2. Select the Licensing tab to access the Licensing Portal.
  3. Select the Entitlement tab to get the Entitlement view. 
  4. Using the Entitlement search function, locate the Entitlement you wish to deploy.
  5. Click on the Entitlement ID link to access the software.
  6. Select the Current Version tab.
  7. Click the Get Key button, and follow the steps to generate the license keys.
  8. Install the product as directed by the product’s documentation, and when prompted, follow the steps to activate the product.

 

Will my maintenance/support agreement change if I upgrade?

No, your maintenance end date will not change if you upgrade. You will be entitled to use the new version of the product under the terms of your current agreement.

What is the Veritas Licensing portal and how do I use it?

The Veritas Licensing Portal is an online tool that provides customers with the ability to view and manage their entitlements. For on-premise software entitlements, the Licensing Portal provides the customer with the ability to download their software, and to acquire their keys.  To access the Licensing Portal, a customer must have a MyVeritas account, and they must have access privileges to the Licensing Portal account associated with their entitlements. To access the Licensing Portal login into MyVeritas and select the Licensing tab.

What if my maintenance/support contract has expired or is due to expire?

If your maintenance/support contract(s) expire, you will need to request a reinstatement of your maintenance/support contract via your reseller.

If your maintenance/support agreement is due to expire, please contact your selected reseller to ensure your entitlement is updated prior to expiration or refer to this page for additional information. This will enable us to help you obtain access to the latest product upgrades, product functionality and fixes available under maintenance/support, and also enable you to protect your business environment from unnecessary risk.

How do I renew my maintenance/support contract?

Veritas typically sends out 60 day notifications prior to expiration, offering details of your pending license renewal. Please contact your reseller to process your renewal and refer to this page for additional guidance.

How do I change the recipient for Software Version Upgrade notification?

Each active member of the customer’s Licensing Portal account will receive the Software Version Upgrade notification. To add member to a License Portal account.

Login into MyVeritas.

  1. Select the Licensing tab to access the Licensing Portal.
  2. Select the Administration tab
  3. Select the Account Members option and click on the Add a New Member link. Follow the steps to add the new member.
