About NetBackup Virtual Appliance storage configuration
The Manage > Storage commands enable you to manage the storage configuration. You can use the Storage > Show ALL command to quickly view the storage configuration.
You can add additional storage space to the appliance. Use the Storage > Add command to add disks with a capacity that is a multiple of 0.5 TB.
Note:
NetBackup Virtual Appliance CloudCatalyst does not support expanding storage capacity.
Figure: NetBackup Virtual Appliance storage space provides a bird's-eye view of how storage space is configured within your appliance.
NetBackup Virtual Appliance supports AdvancedDisk and Media Server Deduplication (or MSDP) on the following:
Combined master and media server for remote offices and branch offices (ROBO)
Media server for data centers (DC)
Note:
AdvanedDisk, MSDP and MSDP Catalog are not available on master server and CloudCatalyst.
Depending on your appliance platform, the appliance storage can be divided using the following storage partitions:
Configuration | A storage partition that stores configuration information. The configuration partition size is 50 GB. |
AdvancedDisk | AdvancedDisk enables you to back up and restore data at a faster rate. It does not involve any deduplication. |
NetBackup Catalog | This partition contains metadata for NetBackup which includes information regarding backups, storage devices, and configuration. The NetBackup Catalog partition is only supported on an appliance master server. The NetBackup Catalog is always located on a Base disk. |
MSDP | The allocated space for Media Server Deduplication (or MSDP) on your appliance. |
MSDP Catalog | This partition contains metadata for MSDP which includes information regarding MSDP backups. |
Unallocated | The storage space that has not been allocated to the other partitions (includes all partitions that are displayed except Unallocated). When you expand the storage space for partitions like MSDP, AdvancedDisk, it is used from the Unallocated space. When you add a disk, the size of the Unallocated space increases. The size of the MSDP, AdvancedDisk, and any other partition remains the same. |
Table: Appliance storage partitions supported size lists the supported sizes for each partition.
Table: Appliance storage partitions supported size
Partition Name | Minimum supported size | Maximum supported size |
---|---|---|
AdvancedDisk | 5 GB | Maximum available capacity |
NetBackup Catalog | 5 GB | Maximum available capacity |
MSDP | 5 GB | Maximum available capacity |
MSDP Catalog | 5 GB | Maximum available capacity |
See the NetBackup documentation for more information on partitions.
