Configuring single sign-on (SSO) using security assertion markup language (SAML)

Overview

Information Governance supports Single Sign On (SSO) for a standard unified login. User authentication is performed through an external Identity Provider (IDP), allowing for an increased level of security for user passwords and identity details. To use Single Sign On, setup is required on the Information Governance and an external Identity Provider (IDP).

For configuring Single sign-on using security assertion markup language, first create an account with the external Identity Provider and download the SAML metadata XML file which you will get while creating an application.

Single sign-on (SSO) prerequisites

make sure that you have the following

  • An external Identity Provider (IDP) that supports SAML 2.0

  • SAML metadata XML file from the external Identity Provider (IDP). Individual metadata XML file is needed for Management Server and Self Service Portal servers.

  • At least one user with server Administrator role in Information Governance and IDP.

  • Active user with same credentials, both in Information Governance and external Identity Provider. To know more about creating a user in Information Governance, refer to See Add or edit Information Governance user options .

Note:

If you do not create a user with the same credentials in Information Governance, you will not be able to re-log in to Information Governance via IDP redirect. In such scenario, use the following URL to log in to Information Governance with Administrator account.

Configurations on Identity Provider (IDP)

Before configuring single sign-on (SSO) in Information Governance, navigate to Setting >> Information Governance Servers and copy Management Server name and Self-Service Portal Server name. Consider that the copied name is InformationGovernance.Arctera .com.

Note:

In Reply URL, add the port number on which your application is running. Default value for Management Server is 443 and for Portal, it is 8888. If your Management Server application is running on port 443, do not add port number in the URL.

Configuring single sign-on (SSO) in Information Governance

To Configuring single Sign-on (SSO) in Information Governance,

  1. Log in to the Information Governance
  2. Click Settings in the top ribbon and click Single Sign-On in the left pane
  3. List comprising of Management Server and Self Service Portal servers will appear on the screen.
  4. By default, server status will be disabled.
  5. To enable the desired server, click Upload IdP Metadata in the right corner.
  6. In the Upload IdP metadata pop up, select the SAML metadata XML file from the external Identity Provider by clicking Browse.
  7. Click Upload

You have configured single sign-on using security assertion markup language. From now on, when you try to log in to Information Governance, you will be redirected to your external Identity Provider authorization page.
