I’ve had the honor to connect with Stephen Workman, a Senior Product Manager who has been with Veritas for 16-years and I’m here to share a bit about the indelible impact he’s made working with the Backup Exec team. Stephen has consistently stood at the forefront of innovation, merging the realm of customers' needs with the new evolution of our Backup Exec product release. Read on to learn about the origins of his tech-driven passion and more.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in technology?

I’ve always been fascinated with technology. I would take apart toys and electronics to try to figure out how they worked. My uncle gave me my first PC when I was 10. I immediately began to tinker to see how it worked, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Q: Can you tell me about your contributions to the new release of Backup Exec 22.2?

I spend a good portion of my time talking to customers and partners, which gives our team insight into how our customers are using the product and helps us make better product decisions. This insight helped shape the roadmap to deliver features our customers need to accomplish their data protection goals. In addition to this, I work closely with marketing to produce our go-to-market content for each release. As a team, we deliver our message to internal and external stakeholders.

Q: What went into this new product release and what value does it add for customers?

This product release continues to expand our ransomware story. In addition to the previously released Lockdown Server and Storage, Backup Exec 22.2 introduces Anomaly Detection, which will alert users to potential threats in their environment allowing them to act before the threat spread throughout the infrastructure. Backup Exec 22.2 will continue to provide users the peace of mind that in the event of a ransomware attack, they’ll be able to recover their most critical resources.

Q: What did you find most rewarding about working with the Backup Exec release?

What I found most rewarding was working with all the amazing teams that make a product release successful at Veritas. It takes the best teams to make each product release happen, and it’s extremely rewarding work with such amazing and talented people.

Q: What’s your key takeaway from this project?  What did you find most challenging?

My key takeaway from the Backup Exec 22.2 release is that all the teams that make each release successful are dialed into the needs of the market and the end user. We understand the challenges that our end users face daily and are aligned on the best path forward to meet their data protection objectives.

Q; When you look at the future and strategy at Veritas, what excites you the most?

There’s so much to be excited about at Veritas. The two things I’m most excited about is our continued focus on cyber resiliency and providing solutions that help our customers transition easily to cloud so they can achieve their data protection objectives.
