Running a simple search
The simple search feature lets you find the items that contain specific words, numbers, or phrases.
To run a simple search
- Select the archive or folder in which you want to run the search in one of the following ways:
- In the search box, enter the text that you want to search for.
A list of search suggestions appears as you type.
- Select the search suggestions that you need for the search and type the rest of the query.
Enterprise Vault Search is not case-sensitive. A search for report also finds Report and REPORT.
If you type two or more words, the search returns only messages that contain them all. To search for a phrase, enclose it in double quotation marks (").
Enterprise Vault Search finds occurrences of a complete word or phrase only. For example, a search for enter does not find entertain.
Type an asterisk (*) to represent any number of characters, or a question mark (?) to represent any single character. For example, a search for enter* finds entertain. The asterisk and the question mark are known as wildcard characters. You must use two question mark wildcards (??) to search for a character that is formed by the combining together of two others, such as æ or œ.
You can construct complex queries that include query syntax (for example, contents:sales subject:report) and Boolean operators (for example, stock NOT price).
You can clear the search box by clicking the × (Return to default search) icon.
- Click Submit search (the magnifying glass icon) or press Enter.
The results pane displays the items that contain the search text.
