Access Appliance OS 8.1 requires 0.5 GB of RAM to be available on each node for every 1 TB of Veritas Data Deduplication storage pool and it is strongly recommended to upgrade the memory on each node if there is not enough memory, note the following guidelines:

• If appliance is running with 8.0.x and it has connection to public network, then don’t need to download this preflight_check_plugins.tar manually, as the download would be done automatically.
• If the appliance is running with 7.4.3.x, or it is running with 8.0.x and it is not connecting to public network, then manually download this preflight_check_plugins.tar and upload to /inst/patch/appliance/available directory on appliance.

Download and installation instructions

The following procedure describes how to download the pre-upgrade check preflight_check_plugins.tar.

To download the preflight_check_plugins.tar from this page:

Perform this task from a computer that can access the Internet and can also communicate with the appliance. Internet access is required to download the preflight_check_plugins.tar from this page to the appliance. You must sign in with your Veritas account credentials to download the package.

To upload the preflight_check_plugins.tar to an appliance using a CIFS or an NFS share:

1. Open an SSH session and log on to the appliance as an administrator using the Access Appliance shell menu.

2. Open an NFS or a CIFS share by entering the following command:
    Access Appliance OS 7.4.3.x: Main_Menu > Manage > Software > Share Open

    or

    Access Appliance OS 8.0.x: access-appliance > system software share open

3. Map or mount the appliance share directory as follows:

  On UNIX
  Mount the following appliance NFS share:

   mkdir -p /mount/<appliance-name>
   mount < appliance-name>:/inst/patch/appliance/available /mount/< appliance-name>

4. After you have successfully copied the preflight_check_plugins.tar to the mounted share, unmount the shared directory.

5. On the appliance, enter the following command to close the NFS and the CIFS shares:
    Access Appliance OS 7.4.3.x: Main_Menu > Manage > Software > Share Close

    or

   Access Appliance OS 8.0.x: access-appliance > system software share close

This tarball won’t be shown by the “List Downloaded” on Access Appliance OS 7.4.3.x or “system software downloaded” on Access Appliance OS 8.0.x.

The tarball should only be copied to the location above, it does not need to be separately installed.

After upgrade to Access Appliance OS 8.1 completed, make sure to clean the tarball on each node of cluster via NFS/CIFS share.
