* You can add up to six Veritas 2U12 49TB Storage Shelves to an existing &ProductName; Appliance with internal storage capacities of 14TiB or 27TiB. However, before you place the system into a production environment, you must migrate all MSDP data from the appliance to the first external storage shelf. After you migrate the MSDP data, the system's usable storage space may fluctuate, depending on how much actual storage space the MSDP data pool uses.

** For all 3- and 4-storage shelf configurations, Veritas strongly recommends that you upgrade the memory capacity from 128GB to a minimum of 192GB when using NetBackup Appliance software versions 3.1 or later, due to the increased resource requirements from updated MSDP encryption standards. A 256GB memory upgrade kit is now available for purchase, which replaces all existing DIMM modules in the appliance. Contact your Veritas account representative for details.

*** For all 5- and 6-storage shelf configurations, Veritas strongly recommends that you upgrade the memory capacity a minimum of 256GB when using NetBackup Appliance software versions 3.1 or later, due to the increased resource requirements from updated MSDP encryption standards. A 256GB memory upgrade kit is now available for purchase, which replaces all existing DIMM modules in the appliance. Contact your Veritas account representative for details.

Note:

Spanning MSDP data across both &ProductName; Appliance internal storage and a storage shelf is not recommended as it may result in degraded performance.

Warning:

Failure to migrate MSDP data after you connect a storage shelf may result in degraded appliance throughput performance.
