Differences between KMS and MSDP encryption for CloudCatalyst configurations
If Key Management Service (KMS) encryption is used in a CloudCatalyst configuration, the cloud plug-in encrypts the data before it uploads the data to the cloud. The result is that the file is encrypted over the wire and in the cloud, but not in the local cache.
If MSDP encryption is used, the files are stored in the cache as encrypted, and then uploaded to the cloud in that state. The result is that the file is encrypted in the local cache, over the wire, and in the cloud.

If both encryption methods are in use, the already-encrypted file from the cache is encrypted again by the cloud plug-in. This double-encryption can result in a larger file being uploaded to the cloud so using both encryption methods is generally not recommended.
