The postgresql.conf configuration file

The postgresql.conf file contains the parameters that you must set to enable WAL archiving before you run a backup.

Parameters

Description

wal_level

This parameter determines how much information is written to the WAL files.

archive_mode

This parameter enables the archive mode so that the WAL logs get stored in the archive directory using the archive_command.

archive_timeout

This parameter sets the number of seconds after which the log file segment will switch to a new segment.

statement_timeout

This parameter aborts any statement that takes more than the set number of milliseconds.
