Veritas Enterprise Vault™ Troubleshooting Retention Folders

Last Published:
Product(s): Enterprise Vault (12.2)

Disabling Storage Expiry in archives with retention folder issues

The option to disable Storage Expiry is available when you set up or modify the retention folders for a retention plan. For example, you can choose this option on the Folders tab of the Retention Plan Properties dialog box.

If you choose to disable Storage Expiry, Enterprise Vault does the following when it detects that an archive has developed retention folder issues:

  • Clears the option Delete expired items from this archive automatically. This option is on the Advanced tab of the Archive Properties dialog box.

You can quickly identify the archives in which Enterprise Vault has cleared this option by reviewing the archive list in the Administration Console.

If you reselect the Delete expired items from this archive automatically option for an archive, and then new retention folder issues arise before the next archiving run, Enterprise Vault clears the option again during this run.

  • Records the following event in the Enterprise Vault event log:

    Log Name: Veritas Enterprise Vault
    Source: Enterprise Vault
    Event ID: 3502
    Level: Error
    Description:
Storage Expiry has been disabled in archive archive_name because
    of retention folder issues.
  • Logs the following information in the audit log:

The expired items in archive archive_name are no longer being automatically deleted because it contains one or more folders that are in conflict with the retention folder settings applied to the archive.

After you have resolved the retention folder issues, you can reenable Storage Expiry in the affected archive by reselecting the option Delete expired items from this archive automatically in the archive properties.
