Veritas Enterprise Vault™ Troubleshooting Retention Folders
How conflict folders affect Enterprise Vault Search users
Enterprise Vault Search users may experience the following issues when they search for items in an archive that contains conflict folders:
Searching for items by folder path may not yield the expected results.
For example, suppose that an Outlook mailbox contains a folder that is called
Moneyand that this folder is linked to a retention folder with the same name in the archive. If the user renames the mailbox folder toFinance, the result is to create a conflict folder that is calledFinance1in the archive. This new folder contains the items that Enterprise Vault previously archived to theMoneyretention folder. Conducting a search for items in theMoneyfolder does not return the items that are now in theFinance1folder. However, users can still find these items by specifying alternative search criteria, such as word or phrases in the subject lines or content of the items. The results pane in Enterprise Vault Search does not show the correct location of the items in a conflict folder. Instead of showing the name of the conflict folder, Enterprise Vault Search shows the name of the retention folder that originally held the items, before they were moved to the conflict folder.
So, in the example above, Enterprise Vault Search shows the folder location of the items as
Money(the original retention folder) rather thanFinance1(the conflict folder).
