Continuing a longstanding tradition, members of the Veritas Heathrow office volunteered their time on Friday, March 10 to speak with high school students about new developments in data management at the 17th annual Seminole County TechFest at Crooms Academy of Information Technology.

Several organizations in the Central Florida region including Orlando Health, Verizon, Motorola, and the U.S. Army participate in this event and share information about their businesses and the opportunities that exist for students in the community.

With Seminole County Public Schools Superintendent Serita Beamon onsite to support the event, the students learned firsthand about the types of challenges Veritas solves for global customers, how it approaches unique situations to ensure that customer data is protected, and how Veritas continues to evolve its solution suite to stay ahead of the latest cyber threats.

The students discussed their growing excitement and concerns around AI solutions like ChatGPT and the fine line between expressing yourself versus protecting privacy on different social media platforms.

For most of the students in attendance, Veritas wasn’t a household name, but as they engaged in conversation with the team and learned about how widespread Veritas’ work and customers are, they became increasingly more engaged in the conversation. They quickly understood that Veritas is a company with a huge footprint focused on keeping the world’s largest organizations online, operational, and resilient in the face of ransomware.

With different prizes and Veritas swag on hand, the students played a version of Wheel of Fortune, participated in the PM exercise “Prune the Product Tree,” and enjoyed four exciting raffle drawings which helped keep them engaged and asking questions.

Several hundred students were in attendance, the energy level was high, and the they were eager to learn and discuss where they want to see technology headed in the future.
