Adding a user or user group to an AMS container

After running the AMS container for the first time, you must sign in to the Appliance Management Console with a default username and password. You can then add a new user to perform AMS operations.

The following describes the two user roles available on an AMS container and their privileges:

  • The Administrator role can only manage users. It cannot perform any other appliance management operations.

  • The AMS role can perform other appliance management operations.

Adding a local user for the first time in AMS

To add a local user

  1. Sign in to the Appliance Management Console using the following default sign-in information:

    Username: admin

    Password: P@ssw0rd

  2. You must change the password for this default user to sign in. Create a new password and click Save.
  3. From the User Management page, you must add a new user to perform other operations in the Appliance Management Console. Navigate to Create/import user > Add local user. Enter a new username and a temporary password, and click Save.
  4. Sign out and then sign in with the new username and temporary password you have created. After signing in, you must change the temporary password to continue to access the Appliance Management Console.
Adding an Active Directory (AD) user or user group in AMS

Once you connect an AD domain, you can import AD users and user groups so that they can access the Appliance Management Console.

To connect an AD domain to the Appliance Management Console

  1. On the Appliance Management Console, click the User management icon in the left-side navigation bar to open the User management page.
  2. Click Connect Active Directory domain.
  3. Fill in the required parameters and click Save.

To import an AD user or user group to the Appliance Management Console

Note:

Nested user groups are not supported. To import the users of a nested group, you must perform this procedure for the group that they directly belong to.

  1. From the User management page, click Create/import user > Import Active Directory users.
  2. Select User or User group.
  3. Depending on your selection, enter the username or the group name. Do not include the domain name.
  4. Click Import.

After you have imported the user or the user group, you can view the details on the User management page.

Note:

You cannot view the members of a user group from the Appliance Management Console. Use the AD server to manage the users within a group.
