Offhost backup initialization failure on: "\\SERVERNAME\X Volume:".V-79-10000-11217 - VSS Snapshot error. The Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshot failed. Make sure that all provider services and tasks are running. Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.

Cause

All Dell Equallogic PS Series arrays come with a comprehensive software toolkit to facilitate the deployment, ongoing management, and protection of Dell Equallogic iSCSI SAN in the Microsoft Windows environments. Auto-Snapshot Manager also provides simple snapshot integration with advanced third party backup applications by supporting VSS
 

Solution

 1) In the backup job properties, under Advance disk-based backup, check if the Snapshot provider is set to " Hardware- Use Technology provided by hardware manufacturer", which is recommended.
 
2) Check the space available for Snapshot on SAN/Dell Equallogic PS Series, if not then create space for snapshots.
