New operational notes for the NetBackup 5250 Appliance
The 5250 appliance uses a revised version of software release 3.2 that contains the required hardware and related software functionality support. The minimum supported software version for the 5250 appliance is the revised 3.2 version that is shipped with each unit. If a re-image is ever necessary, you must use the revised 3.2 software version or a later version.
Note:
The revised 3.2 software version cannot be installed on any other appliance models. Any attempt to re-image a 5230, 5240, 5330, or 5340 appliance with the revised 3.2 software version is blocked.
The following information describes the known issues for the NetBackup 5250 Appliance release.
Storage shelf connectivity and ID numbers
The NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu may show incorrect information for storage shelf cable connections and ID numbers. The following describes the commands, the output messages, and the errors that may appear:
Monitor Hardware > ShowErrors
Failed. No Connection(s) Detected.
Monitor > Hardware > ShowHealth > StorageShelf Connection
May show Disconnected | ERROR intermittently.
Support > ShelfOrdering > Show
May show incorrect ID numbers for some storage shelves.
These are false reports and they do not affect appliance operations. UMI message alerts for these issues have been suppressed. Fixes for these issues are planned for an upcoming appliance release.
The Adapter page for hardware monitoring in the NetBackup Appliance Web Console currently shows accurate information only for the ID and the Status columns for a 5250 appliance. For complete adapter status information, log in to the NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu and enter the following command:
Main > Monitor > Hardware > ShowHealth > Adapter
A fix for this issue is planned for an upcoming appliance release.
When you run the Support> Test Software command on a 5250 appliance, the following appears in the output:
Checking whether registration information is properly set ... [WARNING]
The command is unable to retrieve the appliance registration information. To check and verify the appliance registration information, go to the MyAppliance portal. This check will be removed from the command in an upcoming release.
For the Appliance Management Server (AMS) version 1.3, the Overview tab does not currently show the details for attached external storage shelves on a 5250 appliance. A fix for this issue is planned for an upcoming AMS release.
The performance for the 5250 appliance was tested in a controlled laboratory environment with a specific workload that exceeded 400 concurrent backup streams. The peak throughput was achieved around 100 concurrent backup streams. At this workload level, the appliance was both network and CPU bound. Although these tests showed that the system is capable of handling higher concurrent streams, the throughput will plateau or drop slightly.
