Configuring settings for Veritas™ Information Map
You can configure the settings to register Backup Exec with Veritas™ Information Map.
To configure settings for Veritas™ Information Map
- Click the Backup Exec button, select Configuration and Settings, and then click Backup Exec Settings.
- In the left pane, select Veritas Information Map.
- Configure the following settings:
Send metadata about items in the backup sets to Veritas Information Map
Select this check box to send metadata about items in the backup sets to Veritas Information Map from Backup Exec to Veritas Information Map.
If you clear this check box, Backup Exec immediately stops sending metadata about items in the backup sets to Veritas Information Map. If you want to start sending metadata to Information Map, select the check box again.
Server Name
Enter the server name where the Information Map Agent is installed.
Port
Enter the port number for connecting to the Information Map Agent.
Specify the port that is used by the Information Map Connector service (ConnectorService.exe). By default, the 8286 port number is used.
If you have changed the port number during installation of the Information Map Agent, use the changed port number.
To know the port number that is used do the following in the order listed.
Go to the path where the Information Map Agent is installed. By default, this path is:
C:<Backup Exec install path>\InformationMapAgent
\connectorFramework\connectorService
Open the
webService
file in notepad, and find app.hostPort= .Use the port number that is listed in this field.
Logon Account
Select the logon account of the server where the Information Map Agent is installed.
If the logon account for the server is not in the list, click Add/Edit to add it to the list.
Note:
The logon account must be part of the local administrator's group on the server where the agent is installed.
Agent Status
Displays the registration status of Backup Exec with the Information Map Agent.
- Click Register.
Note:
Information Map setup details are saved only after the connection is registered successfully.
- The Establish Trust dialog box is displayed.
You must verify the security certificate to establish trust with the Information Map server.
- Click View Certificate and compare the public key with in the certificate with the public key available on the Information Map Agent server.
To determine the public key of the certificate on the server where the Information Map Agent is installed, do the following in the order listed:
Open the command prompt on the server where the Information Map Agent is installed.
Switch the directory path to
C:<Backup Exec install path>\InformationMapAgent\bin
Note:
This is the default path where the Information Map Agent is installed.
Run the connector_config.exe generate_webserver_crt command.
A
.cert
file is generated. Open that file and retrieve the public key. Match this key with the certificate key that is displayed when you click View Certificate.
- If the certificate is valid, click Yes.
Backup Exec registers with the Information Map Agent and after the registration is successful, a confirmation message is displayed.
- Select the number of days within which the backup sets were created for their information to be used. Backup Exec sends most recent metadata of files and folders of the protected servers to the Information Map Agent, using the information available in the backup sets.
By default, 45 is selected.
Note:
Metadata is sent to Information Map for a specific resource at least once, and subsequently Backup Exec finds no backups of that resource that is created within the number of days configured with this setting. Backup Exec considers the resource as not part of the live actively protected resources any longer, and the metadata is deleted from Information Map.
- Select the check box to send metadata about items in the backup sets that are encrypted with a common encryption key to Information Map.
Note:
The metadata about items in the backup sets that are encrypted with a restricted key is not sent to Information Map.
- (Optional) To update the Information Map Agent details, edit the required settings and then click Update.
To send metadata about protected data of a virtual agent, ensure that the backup jobs are configured with the appropriate option in the Instant GRT tab. Go to Configuration and Settings > Job Defaults > Backup to Disk > Instant GRT. In this tab, select any of the following options:
