Performing factory reset for cluster nodes

Use this procedure when the nodes are in a cluster and you want to factory reset both the cluster nodes. Veritas recommends that you erase the disks by running the Storage > Erase Configure command before performing the factory reset. When you initiate a factory reset, both the cluster nodes are reset to their default factory settings and to the version that was installed at the factory. The password is set to its original known default value.

To perform factory reset, you log on to one of the nodes in the cluster. This node establishes an SSH connection with the other node in cluster and initiates the factory reset operation on the other node with the configured network and storage settings. The first node waits until the factory reset operation is completed successfully on other node in the cluster before beginning the same process on the first node. If the factory reset fails to complete because of any error on the other node, the factory reset operation is terminated.

Note:

You cannot initiate a factory reset operation if the disk erasure process is in progress on any of the cluster nodes. You must wait until the disks are erased before you can initiate the factory reset.

To factory reset the cluster:

  1. Using SSH, log on to the Access Appliance shell menu of one of the nodes in the cluster.
  2. From the Main_Menu navigate to the Support menu and enter the following command:

    Main_Menu > Support > FactoryReset

Information about the factory reset operation is displayed with the recommendation to erase the disks before proceeding to factory reset the nodes.

  3. Confirm that you want to continue with the factory reset operation and reset both the nodes in the cluster.
  4. Specify whether you want to reset the network configuration. If you enter no, the DNS and IP configuration information is deleted. The host name is reset to its default irrespective of whether you choose to delete or retain the network configuration. If you enter yes, the network configuration is deleted.
  5. Specify whether you want to restart the nodes after the factory reset is complete. Veritas recommends that you choose to restart the nodes automatically after the factory reset operation is complete.
  6. Review the selected options and the summary of changes.

The following message is displayed. If you want to begin the factory reset operation, enter yes.

    >> Caution: The appliance is ready for factory reset. This process cannot
be reversed! Do you want to proceed? [yes, no] (no) yes
  7. The factory reset process starts and the following messages are displayed:
-[Info] Running factory reset. This process can take up to 20 minutes...
    -[Info] The appliance is restarting...
