Problem
An Exception of FIPS 140-2 compliant software encryption can occur with Backup Exec 23 or 24 when backing up remote servers.
Error Message
WARNING: FIPS 140-2 compliant software encryption is enabled, but is not supported for the backup of this resource. Standard software encryption will be used instead.
Cause
A registry for FIPS 140-2 compliant software encryption is missing on the remote servers.
Solution
This issue is resolved with Backup Exec 24.0 Hotfix 651544
Workaround:
1. On the remote servers, create the following registry and set data to 1
Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veritas\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\Encryption
Value: Use FIPS mode
Type: DWORD
Data: 1
2. On the remote servers, restart Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows service
