How to create vtstap storage policy in VMware vCenter to use with VRP Data Mover replication and NetBackup Continuous Data Protection feature in HTML5 UI

VRP Data Mover and NetBackup Continuous Data Protection feature requires storage policy vtstap to protect VMs using VRP Data Mover VAIO replication with vCenter 6.0U2 and later. User may need to create vtstap storage policy after performing manual Replication VIB installation on ESXi hosts.  

Note: Replace vtstap with vxtap for vCenter versions before 6.0U2.

We can use vCenter either HTML5 UI or Flash UI. Below steps are for HTML5 UI.

Steps for creation of VM storage policy with HTML5 UI

 1)     Go to Menu -> “Policies and Profiles”.

2)     Select “Select VM Storage Policiesand choose “Create VM Storage Policy”.

 

3)     Use “vtstap” for Name: and enter description as desired and click Next.

 

4)    In menu Policy structure, under “Host based services”, select checkbox “Enable host based rules”

5)   In menu “Host based service”, select tab “Replication” and after selecting option “Custom”, set Provider to “vtstap” and encoding value to 2.

 

6)     In menu “Storage compatibility”, it will list compatible datastores.

7)   It will show details similar to below in menu “Review and finish”. Click on “FINISH”.

 

8)  You would see vtstap policy created like below.
