How to perform a recovery of a VMware vCenter Virtual Machine

Description

Follow these steps to recover a VMware vCenter Virtual Machine (VM); Windows-based, or a vCenter Appliance (vCSA):

  1. Delete credentials from NetBackup for the vCenter that is being recovered.

  2. Disassociate the ESXi server targeted for the restore from the vCenter.
  3. Add Restore ESXi credentials to NetBackup.
    • See Related Articles below for alternative solutions.
  4. Proceed with the vCenter VM restore, specifying the target vCenter as "None" and choosing the target ESXi server selected in the previous steps.
  5. Power on the restored vCenter VM.
  6. Add the ESXi server back to the restored vCenter if necessary.
  7. Add vCenter credentials back to NetBackup.
  8. Delete credentials from NetBackup for the Restore ESXi used in step 3 above.
