Problem

System State  backup jobs fail intermittently with error 0xe000ff15 - A communications failure has occurred with a System State resource

This issue occurs only if the System State of the affected server is added to the selection list. Back up jobs of  resources other than the System State of the affected server finish successfully.

This issue can occur at intermittent intervals on random servers in the Backup Exec environment.

Workaround

Customers experiencing this issue are advised to perform one or more of the following workarounds, as these have been reported to be successful in many cases:

 

1) Optimize the System State Backup Size following the steps suggested in the following article:

Increasing System State backup performance

Test Backups after performing steps in 100047869

 

2) Configure antivirus exclusions for Backup Exec: List of Anti-virus exclusions to configure for Backup Exec

3) Isolate and resolve any network issues: Troubleshoot network errors.

4) Upgrade Backup Exec to version 20.3 or later. After upgrade, the "Retry Failed Resource" option can be used on failed backups reporting this error.

4) Enable software compression.

5) Enable software encryption.

Veritas Technologies LLC has acknowledged that the above-mentioned issue is present in the current version(s) listed under the Product(s) Section of this article. Veritas Technologies LLC is committed to product quality and satisfied customers. 
  
There are currently no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in the current or previous versions of the software at the present time. This issue may be resolved in a future major revision of the software at a later time.
