List of Anti-virus exclusions to configure for Backup Exec

Problem
 

This article provides a list of suggested anti-virus exclusions to configure on the Backup Exec server.
 

Solution
 

Exclude the following processes (if they are exist in the system) from the anti-virus installed on the Backup Exec server:

X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\beremote.exe
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\beserver.exe
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\bengine.exe
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\benetns.exe
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\pvlsvr.exe
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\BackupExec.exe
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\BkUpexec.exe
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\backupexecmanagementservice.exe
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\RemSrv64.exe
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\bedbg.exe
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\pdvfsservice.exe

Exclude the following folder from the anti-virus installed on the Backup Exec server:

X:\ProgramData\Symantec\CRF\* or X:\ProgramData\Veritas\CRF\*
X:\ProgramData\Symantec Shared\* or X:\ProgramData\Veritas Shared\*
X:\ProgramData\Symantec\* or X:\ProgramData\Veritas\*

(be sure to append * to the path once each path has been added)

Exclude the following processes (if they are exist in the system) from the anti-virus installed on the remote servers:

X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\RAWS\beremote.exe
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\RAWS\bedbg.exe
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\RAWS\RemSrv64.exe
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\RAWS\pdvfsservice.exe
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\RAWS\mtstrmd.exe (Backup Exec 20.0 and above)
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\RAWS\VxLockdownServer.exe (Backup Exec 20.4 and above)
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\RAWS\ocsd.exe (Backup Exec 22 and above
X:\Program Files\Symantec or Veritas\Backup Exec\RAWS\fips_proxy.exe (Backup Exec 22.2 and above)

Exclusions on the Backup Exec server for the deduplication storage:

X:\BackupExecDeduplicationStorageFolder\** (X: is for the Dedupe Volume Drive letter)
\\.pdvfs
\Device\Pdvfs\*.*
\Device\Pdvfs\PdvfsRedirector\*.*

 

Possible Error Messages:
 

Exchange Backup
 

V-79-57344-65193 - The backup selection "Exchange Database" was not successfully processed for Granular Recovery Technology (GRT). The Database Recovery failed with Error '*Null*'

0xe00002f7 - Cannot extract mailbox messages from the Exchange backup

0xe000ff12 - A communications failure has occurred with an Exchange Store resource

V-79-57344-38721 - Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images

0x20 - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

 

System State Backup
 

V-79-57344-65247 or 0xE000FEDF - A failure occurred reading an object.

Exceptions:

Backup- \\server01\System?State WARNING: "\\server01\System?State\System Files\System Files" is a corrupt file. This file cannot verify.
Verify- \\server01\System?State \\server01\System?StateWARNING: "System Files" is a corrupt file. This file cannot verify.

 

Backup Exec 22.2 onwards an Alert is raised to inform user about making these Antivirus exclusions for BE processes, files and folders.
