Creation of SDR(Simplified Disaster Recovery) disk fails with the following error: cannot mount the image file C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp\CustomSDRD1\SOURCES\BOOT.WIM

Problem

Unable to create a custom SDR (Simplified Disaster Recovery) ISO using the Custom SDR Disk Creation Wizard.

The SDR wizard reports an error unable to mount boot.wim file.

Error Message

Error: cannot mount the image file C:\Users\<Admin user>\AppData\Local\Temp\CustomSDRD1\SOURCES\BOOT.WIM

Cause

This issue is observed when the following drivers are not loaded correctly or not installed on the system or Antivirus software blocking the drivers to mount the .wim file.

wimfltr.sys (Windows Image File Mini-Filter Driver.)
wimmount.sys (WIM FS Filter driver,this enables you to mount your image with read-only or read/write permissions) 
  

Solution

1) Disable Antivirus Software and create the SDR disk.   Additional Information:  List of Anti-virus exclusions to configure for Backup Exec (100046324)

2) If the above mentioned drivers are missing on the system, Download and install Windows (ADK) for the respective operating system and Windows PE add-on for  the ADK.  The above mentioned drivers are part of this package. The ADK package may have to be uninstalled and reinstlaled.
