Problem

The NetBackup 8.x Upgrade Portal contains important information regarding upgrading to NetBackup 8.x.  NetBackup 6.x (NBU) reached End of Support Life (EOSL) on October 3, 2012. To receive continued support and the full benefit of "Better backup for all," upgrade to NetBackup 8. The key points contained below offer guidance and suggestions to help guide customers to a successful upgrade experience.  The information below is continuously reviewed and will be updated with additional details as and when they become available.
 
The Upgrade Portal contains details on the following releases:
 
NetBackup 8.1 – This version of NetBackup went GA in September 2017!
NetBackup 8.0 – This version of NetBackup went GA in December 2016!
NetBackup 7.7.3 – This version of NetBackup went GA in June 2016!
NetBackup 7.7.2 – This version of NetBackup went GA in February 2016!
NetBackup 7.7.1 – This version of NetBackup went GA in September 2015!
NetBackup 7.7 – This version of NetBackup went GA in July 2015!

NetBackup 8.1 :

Key Notes:
The NetBackup 8.1 upgrade guide provides an upgrade path from NetBackup version 7.7.x through 8.0. If you want to upgrade from NetBackup versions older than 7.7.x, you must first upgrade to NetBackup 8.0. Please refer to the NetBackup 8.0 Release Notes and the NetBackup 8.0 Upgrade Guide for details. These documents provide additional information about upgrade steps and requirements that are necessary for a successful upgrade.

NetBackup 8.0 :

Key Notes:
1. NetBackup 8.0 will be a complete installation package.  Prior to upgrading run a Catalog Backup of all databases including Media Server Deduplication Pool (MSDP).
 
2. Upgrade to NetBackup 8.0 can occur from all NetBackup 7.x versions. OpsCenter should be updated first, followed by the NetBackup Master Server, then Media Servers, then Clients.
