About the roles of the Replication Director plug-ins
Replication Director uses an OpenStorage plug-in on the media server to communicate with the disk array (through the storage server) and to make requests to move data.
The OpenStorage partner hosts a software plug-in that allows communication between NetBackup and the disk array.
Table: Names of plug-ins used in Replication Director lists the plug-ins used by NetBackup and by the OpenStorage partners.

Plug-in name | Installation location |
|---|---|
The NBUPlugin communicates with the OnCommand Unified Manager. For installation instructions, see the NetApp Plug-in for Veritas NetBackup Installation and Administration Guide, available from the NetApp Support Site. The default communication between the two plug-ins is to use encryption. A change can be made to the NBUPlugin config file to disable encryption. The Encryption policy attribute has no impact on the encryption between the plug-ins. By default, the NetApp Plug-in for Veritas NetBackup uses IPv4, however the system can be configured to use IPv6. Note: The NetApp Plug-in for cDOT support (2.0) cannot be installed on the OnCommand Unified Manager server, the master server, or any media servers. You should install the plug-in on a separate Windows or Linux computer. |
