About iSCSI
iSCSI is a way of connecting storage devices over a network by using TCP/IP. iSCSI was developed to enable transmission of SCSI commands over the existing Internet Protocol (IP) network by using the TCP/IP protocol. iSCSI offers the possibility of delivering both messaging traffic and block-based storage over IP networks without installing a separate Fibre Channel network.
The protocol allows clients (called initiators) to send SCSI commands to SCSI storage devices (targets) on remote servers.
A target is a storage resource located on an iSCSI server (generally, one of possibly many instances of iSCSI storage nodes running on that server). To communicate with each other, iSCSI initiators and targets establish iSCSI sessions.
