Veritas Appliances may report UMI Error Alert Code: V-475-100-1001 that describes a disk error with the RAID Hot Spare Disk. This error can happen on new or upgraded appliances.
The following table describes the affected appliance models, their associated software version and Disk Location:
|Appliance Model||Software Version||RAID Hot Spare Disk Location|
|NetBackup 5230||3.2||2U Internal Storage Enclosure Slot: 11|
|NetBackup 5230||3.2||3U External Storage Enclosure Slot: 16|
|NetBackup 5240||3.2||2U Internal Storage Enclosure Slot: 11|
|NetBackup 5240||3.2||2U External Storage Enclosure Slot: 11|
|NetBackup 5240||3.2||3U External Storage Enclosure Slot: 16|
|Flex 5340||1.3||2U Internal Storage Enclosure Slot: 4|
|NetBackup 5330||3.2||2U Internal Storage Enclosure Slot: Variable|
|NetBackup 5340||3.2||2U Internal Storage Enclosure Slot: 4|
|NetBackup 5340 HA||3.2||2U Internal Storage Enclosure Slot: 4|
On some appliance models, the RAID Hot Spare Disks (Dedicated or Global) are spun down as part of the energy saving features. These disks are then spun back up (transitioned) periodically to undergo a quick diagnostics check to ensure the viability to maintain the fault tolerance of the RAID Array, if a true disk failure occurs.
While these hard disk drives mainly reside within the appliance base chassis (Internal Storage Enclosure), others will reside in the external expansion storage shelves (External Storage Enclosure) for the associated appliance models.
- UMI Event code: V-475-100-1001
- Component Type: Disk
- Component: Enclosure XX Disk XX
- Status: Unconfigured Bad
- State: ERROR
XX represents the Enclosure and Disk Slot Number as described in the "Problem" section above.
An enhancement was made to a hardware monitoring plugin. This change resulted in a condition where some RAID hot spare disks are flagged as having an "Unconfigured Bad" status when the hot spare disk was in the process of going through the diagnostics check. This is a false alert, since the disk is not actually in an "Unconfigured Bad state.
Short Term: Allow the alert to clear itself, which happens automatically after 5 minutes. No manual intervention necessary.
