Description

How to increase the size of the Storage Replicator Log (SRL) for Veritas Volume Replicator (VVR) for Windows

1) From Veritas Enterprise Administrator(VEA),  expand Replication Network

2) Expand the Replicated Data Set (RDS) and the Replicated Volume Group (RVG) that contains the SRL

3) Right click on the SRL and select Expand Volume

4) Enter the new size of the SRL in the New volume size field of the Expand Volume dialog box.

The value to be entered needs to be the final expected volume size when the expansion is complete and not the incremental amount by which the volume needs to be increased.

NOTE: The SRL size can only be increased on the Server/Node hosting the Primary RVG.

As per VVR product design, the expansion of SRL on any of the Server/Node hosting Secondary RVG will report the error below:

Error V-76-58645-295

The Replicator Log volume cannot be resized. This operation is supported only on the Primary RVG when the DCM is not in use.

To expand the SRL on the Secondary RVG, the RVG role needs to be migrated to allow the Secondary server to become the Primary site and then SRL can be expanded using the above steps.

NOTE: Mismatch in SRL size does not impact VVR operations but it is better to keep it the same for better performance.

If there are restrictions/limitations preventing the migration to the Secondary but SRL on the Secondary needs to be expanded, then the below steps can be performed:

1) From the Primary, go to VEA-> Localhost -> Expand "Volumes" Tree -> Right click on SRL volume -> Properties -> Select "Size"  -> Select the pull down menu and Choose "Sectors"

Make a note of this value.

2) On the primary server, disassociate the SRL of the Secondary. from VEA -> Replication Network -> Select the Secondary RVG -> Right Click on the secondary SRL -> Disassociate SRL log

3) On the Secondary Server, go to VEA -> Localhost -> Expand "Volumes" Tree -> Right click on SRL volume -> Select Resize.. -> Expand volume -> For the "New volume size" option, select the pull down menu and Choose "Sectors"

The value to be entered in the New volume size should be exactly the same value for that volume as captured from step #1 from Primary.

4) Click on OK

5) Open the VEA -> Replication Network -> Select the Secondary RVG -> RIght Click and select "Associate SRL" -> Select the SRL (if a list of volumes is provided)

6) Start replication.

Now the size of the SRL on the Secondary will match the size of the SRL on the Primary.

For example,

The size of SRL captured in sectors from Primary is 6254592

Below is the expected value to be entered on the secondary side for the SRL during expansion.

As seen above, since the value in sectors on Primary was captured as 6254592, so during expansion on the Secondary, the value for New volume size is given as 6254592 in Sectors
