Problem
When VMware virtual machines are included for backup, certain characters are not allowed in the virtual machine display name or in the names of other vSphere objects.
If the name contains the wrong characters, the backup may fail.
Solution
The following characters are allowed in virtual machine display names, cluster names, datastore names, file names, and folder names:
■ Uppercase and lowercase ASCII characters
■ Numbers
■ Period (.)
■ Hyphen (-)
■ Underscore (_)
■ Plus sign (+)
■ Left and right parentheses ()
■ Spaces
No other characters are allowed. Ensure that your virtual machine names do not contain any characters that are not listed above.
