Add intelligent groups to a policy
This topic describes how to add intelligent groups to a SQL Server Intelligent Policy.
Note:
Intelligent groups replace the legacy method of using instance groups to organize instances in a group.
You can create and add a new intelligent group to a policy or add an existing intelligent group to a policy.

To add an existing intelligent group to a SQL Server Intelligent policy
- In the policy, select the Instances and databases tab.
- Select Protect intelligent groups.
- Select the Add button.
- Select Select existing intelligent group. Then select Next.
The intelligent groups that you added are displayed.
- Select the intelligent groups that you want to add to the policy. Then select the Select button.
To add a new intelligent group to a SQL Server Intelligent policy
- In the policy, select the Instances and databases tab.
- Select Protect intelligent groups.
- Select the Add button.
- Select Add new intelligent group.
- Select Next.
- Enter a name for the group and create a query.
- Select Add.
- On the Instances and databases tab, select Protect intelligent groups.
- Select the Add button.
- Select Select existing intelligent group. Then select Next.
The intelligent groups that you added are displayed.
- Select the intelligent groups that you want to add to the policy. Then select the Select button.
