Creating Policies

Apart from the existing policies, you can create new policies as per your classification requirements.

To create new policy,

  1. Click Policy in the left pane and click Create Policy.
  2. On the Create Policy page, enter unique policy name.
  3. Enter the policy description (optional).
  4. Select Policy Type from the drop-down and click Next.

There are three options to choose from: User data accesses, Filegroup based and Tag based.

    • User data accesses: This policy triggers alerts when specified users access monitored files. Administrators can configure the data, users, and access types to monitor for potential data access violations.

    • Filegroup based: This policy generates alerts when files with specific extensions - typically associated with threats like ransomware - are detected. Administrators can configure the relevant file groups, and Information Governance flags violations during scan data ingestion.

    • Tag based: This policy triggers alerts based on tags assigned to files during classification. Administrators can specify sensitive tags like Authentication or Confidential, and Information Governance will raise alerts when files containing these tags are identified, helping monitor and control sensitive data exposure.

  5. On the next page, you can choose to select all devices or specify particular ones. To select specific devices, click the Custom Selection radio button, then choose the desired data sources and repositories from the list. Click Next to continue.
    • For User data accesses policy type, select access type like create or delete which you would like to include.

    • For Filegroup based policy type, select file group/s which you would like to include.

    • For Tag based policy type, select tag name/s which you would like to include.

Click Next after selecting the required options.

  6. If you have selected User data accesses policy type, select action Permitted or Restricted by selecting the radio button, then select Users or Groups and click Next. This option is not available for any other policy types.
  7. On the Select access type page, select the required options and click Next.
  8. On the next page, Generate email notification will be selected by default. This field is not editable. Click Next.
  9. On the scheduling options page, Automated by system will be selected by default. This field is not editable.
  10. Click Next to complete the process.

The newly created policy will be enabled and listed on the Policy page.
