About Collector node
The Collector node in a cloud environment supports only generic devices. It is used to scan supported cloud-based data sources and collect file metadata and basic access-related information, depending on what is available through APIs or connectors. Information Governance uses this information to offer insights into data ownership, help identify stale or orphaned files, and assist in evaluating data relevance based on usage indicators. Although cloud collectors do not capture detailed on-premises-specific information such as NTFS permissions or security descriptors, they enable foundational visibility and reporting by extracting accessible attributes like file size, last modified date, and creator details. This functionality helps drive classification, cleanup, and policy-based actions in cloud repositories.
