Support for NetBackup Dedupe Direct for Oracle
Access Appliance supports NetBackup Dedupe Direct for Oracle, which is a lightweight plug-in for performing RMAN backups to MSDP storage (Veritas Data Deduplication pool). This enables client-side deduplication to minimize network traffic and improves overall backup speed. The integration is enabled with RMAN and empowers the DBA to perform all backup and restore operations.
This solution helps Oracle DBAs to control the entire protection and lifecycle stages without a NetBackup client. Oracle DBAs can deploy this plug-in with owned system permission (non-root) and perform backup or restore jobs. NetBackup Dedupe Direct for Oracle is a separate package and can be installed on the Oracle host.
Prerequisites for installing NetBackup Dedupe Direct for Oracle:
Veritas Data Deduplication should be configured.
The spa user with app role should be configured from Access Appliance CLISH.
# dedupe adduser username [role] [config_name]
username
Username of the deduplication server
role
Enter one of the supported roles (app|admin) [admin]
config_name
Name of the deduplication service. Default value is vxdefault.
You can use the dedupe listuser command to show the user and its role.
# dedupe listuser
You can install the NetBackup Dedupe Direct for Oracle on the Oracle database server using the Oracle user.
Change the ownership permission of the plugin tar file.
chown oracle:oinstall netbackup-dedupe-direct-for-oracle.linuxR_x86.tar
Login with the Oracle user and extract the tar file.
Change the directory to the extracted folder and install the NetBackup Dedupe Direct for Oracle using the following command:
./sbt_config -install
Supported versions:
Oracle database version from 19C, 21C
OS version: RHEL 7.x or RHEL 8.x
