Updates to this guide for NetBackup 8.0
This revision adds information on features for faster backup and recovery of Hyper-V virtual machines on Windows Server 2016.
Table: NetBackup 8.0 features for Hyper-V virtual machines on Windows Server 2016
Feature | Description |
---|---|
WMI backup method | These NetBackup 8.0 features for Hyper-V use the WMI backup method. (These features do not use VSS.) For support notes and requirements for these new Hyper-V features, see Support for NetBackup in virtual environments at the following location: http://www.veritas.com/docs/000006177 See Creating a Hyper-V policy from the NetBackup Policies utility. |
Block-level incremental backup (BLIB) | BLIB uses Microsoft's resilient change tracking (RCT) to perform faster backup of the virtual machines. BLIB backups support recovery of the full virtual machine and of individual files. BLIB also reduces the size of the virtual machine backup image. |
Accelerator | Accelerator uses Microsoft's resilient change tracking (RCT) to perform faster backup of virtual machines (full backups and incremental backups). Accelerator backups support recovery of the full virtual machine and of individual files. Note: Accelerator requires the use of block-level incremental backup (BLIB). See About the NetBackup Accelerator for virtual machines. See Accelerator notes and requirements for virtual machines. |
Control of resources | New resource limit settings for Hyper-V Server 2016 and the WMI backup method. |
Support for new storage types |
|
Policy Query Builder option to filter VMs based on VM configuration version | Two new Hyper-V Intelligent Policy filters are available, for automatic selection of virtual machines based on their VM configuration version. |
Restore features | The following are enhancements for restoring a VM that was backed up with the WMI method:
See Restore Marked Files dialog for restore of the Hyper-V virtual machine. Note: The GUID and display name enhancements cannot be used when you restore the VM to a staging location. |
