How to remove and reset backup job and history information in Veritas System Recovery.

Solution

These steps will remove the backup job(s) and job history in Veritas System Recovery (VSR):

(NOTE: These steps will NOT remove your existing recovery points but will remove all reference to them in VSR. These ‘orphaned’ recovery points are valid and can be used in a disaster recovery.  These orphaned recovery points can be manually deleted without affecting the VSR history.)

1.  Click on Windows Start | Run | type "services.msc", click ok.

2.  Locate and stop the ‘Veritas System Recovery’ service.

3. Create a new folder called ‘OLD’, and move (do not copy) all files with the file extensions “.PQH.PQJ, and .sv2i” located by default into following folder from the following folders:

Windows version 7, 2008 and newer:

C:\ProgramData\Veritas\VERITAS SYSTEM RECOVERY\

C:\ProgramData\Veritas\VERITAS SYSTEM RECOVERY\History\

C:\ProgramData\Veritas\VERITAS SYSTEM RECOVERY\Schedule\

4.  Delete the ‘RPAM’ folder located in the following location:

Windows version 7, 2008 and newer:

C:\ProgramData\Veritas\

5. Delete the "RPAM_Store.dat" file from the Backup Destination along with "VProRecovery" hidden folder

6. If using SSR 2013 or newer:
              Stop the ‘SymTrackService’ service.

7. Open a command prompt as Administrator and run the following command:
              FLTMC UNLOAD SSRFsF

Delete the hidden .vtrack folder and the VTrackDiskControl.ctl file from the root of each volume being backed up.
(NOTE : To make these hidden files visible, click on Tools | Folder Options | View. Check ‘Show Hidden files and folders’ and uncheck ‘Hide protected operation system files’.)

8. Move all the existing ‘orphaned’ recovery points to a new folder location. These files can be manually deleted at a later time. The backup destination should be empty when the new backup job starts.

9. Restart the computer and setup a new backup job.
