Problem

Backup job fail with (V-79-57344-34108) 0xe000fe36 - Corrupt data encountered error 

Error Message

Final Error: 0xa000fe36 - Corrupt data encountered.

V-79-57344-34108 - An unexpected error occurred when cleaning up snapshot volumes. Confirm that all snapped volumes are correctly resynchronized with the original volumes.

 Description:
 The shadow copies of volume D: were aborted because volume E:, which contains shadow copy storage for this shadow copy, was force dismounted.

Cause

The Issue can be caused due to an error on E drive, which is where the shadow copy of D storage resides in the above error.

Solution

1)  Check which drive is set to host the shadow copies. Right Click on the drive letter (which was being backed up) and go to properties of it from windows explorer. Highlight the shadow copy tab. Highlight the drive letter which was being backed up -> Settings, check on which volume is the Storage area of shadow copies set. Confirm this volume has sufficient space and is accessible. If this volume dismounts during the course of backup, the backup job would fails with above error and a volsnap error will also be seen in event viewer.

2) The Shadow copy Storage area of the drive being backed up can be changed and then the backup can be tested.

3) Review VSS settings mentioned in article : Backup job fails with error 0xe000fe36 - Corrupt data encountered (a000fe36 HEX or e000fe36 HEX)
