Problem

A message "Cannot restore BIOS / UEFI based recovery points on UEFI / BIOS based computers. Please select a UEFI / BIOS based recovery point." appears during the recovery of Veritas System Recovery Disk (SRD), and the recovery wizard is unable to be proceeded.

Cause

The message appears when BIOS based recovery points are selected during the recovery of the SRD that is running on UEFI mode, and vice versa.

NOTE: Some UEFI based systems has the ability to boot into legacy BIOS mode permitting non-UEFI operating systems to be installed. This mode must be selected to perform a restore of a BIOS based recovery point. Consult the OEM's documentation or manufacturer support on the procedure needed to boot the system into a legacy BIOS mode.

Solution

Please confirm whether the recovery points were created on BIOS or UEFI mode and confirm whether the SRD is running on BIOS or UEFI mode. How to distinguish them is as follows.

How to distinguish on which mode the recovery points were created
1. Boot from the SRD.
2. Select Network and configure network connection settings and map a network drive if necessary.
3. Select Recover and click Recover My Computer.
4. Press Next.
5. Select Date in View recovery points by
6. Browse the recovery point folder that sv2i file is located in.
7. Make sure Image Firmware Type is BIOS or UEFI.  (Figure 3)

NOTE:
In case that "Image Firmware Type" is UEFI, the recovery points were created on UEFI based computers, and they have to be restored from SRD that is running on UEFI mode.
In case that "Image Firmware Type" is BIOS, the recovery points were created on BIOS based computers, and they have to be restored from SRD that is running on BIOS mode.

How to distinguish on which mode the SRD is running
1. Replace with a new disk. In case of the existing disk, the existing disk is able to be detected as a new disk when erasing the existing data using the command ("diskpart" and "clean") or ("diskpart" and "clean all") after booting from SRD or Windows Installation media.

2. Select Network and configure network connection settings and map a network drive if necessary.
3. Select Recover and click Recover My Computer.
4. Press Next.
5. Select Filename in View recovery points by.
6. Browse the recovery point file that v2i file is located in.
7. Press Next.
8. Make sure Layout Type is GPT or MBR. (Figure 4 and 5)

NOTE
In case that "Layout Type" is GPT, the SRD is running on UEFI mode. The UEFI based recovery points are able to be restored.
In case that "Layout Type" is MBR, the SRD is running on BIOS mode. The BIOS based recovery points are able to be restored.
