RDX media is not automatically expired with Backup Exec 2012

When backing up to RDX media (Example: RD 1000), media sets that have expired are not overwritable, and the user is continually prompted to "Insert Overwritable Media".

Error Message

If debugging is enabled the following errors can be seen.

At the end of device and media logging, an IO device error is noted:

Set Backup Exec to overwrite recyclable media before overwriting scratch.

a. Navigate to the top-left Backup Exec drop down menu.
b. Select: Configuration and Settings -> Backup Exec Settings -> Storage -> Media Overwrite options.
c. From the overwrite options, select "Overwrite recyclable media contained in the targeted media set before
overwriting scratch media"

Manually delete expired backup sets from the media within the Backup Exec 2012.

Great care should be taken to ensure that backup sets have truely expired and do not contain data that might be required for future restores.

a. From the Storage tab, right click on the RDX device, select "Properties", then click "Backup Sets".
b. Delete any Backup Sets where the "Expiration" data lists a value prior to the current date.
