Problem

Adding a Veritas Operations Manager (VOM) Managed Host (MH) to the Central Management Server (CMS) fails with an error that the credential could not be pushed.

Error Message

Error V-338-1-2039 Could not push credential to host Unable to add hosts

Cause

This error occurs when the MH and the CMS are unable to communicate with each other and establish the proper credentials.

Possible causes for the issue

  • Port 5634 not being open for access on the network or possible firewall preventing the port access
  • Name resolution between the MH and the CMS is not working.

Solution

To resolve the issue, verify the following items:
  1. Ensure that port 5634 on the MH and the CMS is not blocked for both inbound and outbound traffic.
  2. Ensure that the MH and the CMS can ping each other by both the host name and the IP address. VOM is dependent on resolving an IP address to a host name using any of the standard name resolution methods (DNS, %systemroot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file, etc.).
