AuditViewer fails to connect to audit database: Error querying database. Data source name not found and no default driver specified

Problem

Enternrise Vault (EV) AuditViewer.exe generates an error message on startup because it cannot connect to the EnterpriseVaultAudit database.

Error querying database. Data source name not found and no default driver specified

Cause

This issue will occur if Microsoft ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server is not installed on the EV server, or has been upgraded to a later version.

A workaround is to install the v17 of the ODBC driver for SQL Server.

 

Solution

There are currently no plans to address this issue through a patch or hotfix in the current or previous versions of the software. However, it is scheduled to be resolved in the next major product revision. Please note that the product engineering team reserves the right to remove any fix from the targeted release if it does not pass quality assurance tests. Our plans are subject to change, and any actions you take based on this information, or your reliance on it, are at your own risk.
