Changes to NetBackup Software and Container Distribution Rights: Important Dates and Customer Guidance

  • After December  30, 2025, Cohesity will no longer provide packages for NetBackup Primary/Media server versions 10.1.1 and earlier via the Download Center.
  • Similarly, Cohesity will no longer provide containers/applications that contain NetBackup Primary Server versions 10.4.0.1 and earlier.
  • Please note, there is no change in the support life for NetBackup Primary Server containers/applications that are still in Standard Support after December 30, 2025, only container availability via the Download Center.
  • We recommend customers download the impacted packages and containers prior to December 30, 2025 for their own archive or disaster recovery purposes in line with the Product Use Rights (PUR).  Please refer to the FAQ for more information on approved use cases for archived copies.
  • Existing deployments are not impacted.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.           What is happening?

A.           Beginning on December 31, 2025, all NetBackup Primary Server software versions 10.1.1 and earlier, Appliances versions 5.1.1 and earlier, and all NetBackup containers/applications that contain NetBackup Primary Server versions 10.4.0.1 and earlier will be removed from any general availability via our download portals.

2.           Why is this being done?

A.           Cohesity has decided to cease distribution of certain third party binaries that are embedded in the above-mentioned NetBackup software/versions after December 30, 2025.

3.           What about my existing NetBackup 10.1.1 / NetBackup Appliance 5.1.1 (or containerized Primary Server 10.4.0.1) and earlier deployments?  Are those affected in some way?

A.           You may continue to use any existing Primary Server deployments in line with your existing entitlements.

4.           Is this related to the Veritas + Cohesity merger?

A.           No.  Phasing out distribution of these third party binaries was underway well before the general announcement of the merger.

5.           Does this apply to all NetBackup roles?

A.           No.  NetBackup Primary Server roles and related packages and containers are impacted.  This also affects availability of OpsCenter 10.0.0.1 and earlier package availability.

6.           What about Media Server and Client roles?

A.           Client packages for all form factors are separate and are not impacted, though availability may change at any time for EOSL versions.

B.           Flex Appliance (not Flex Scale) containers are provided today for Primary Server only deployments, and they will no longer be provided except for approved scenarios.

C.           Flex Appliance (not Flex Scale) Media Server containers for supported versions are not impacted and are still available for supported versions.

D.           Software (BYO) packages and Flex Scale containers for Server roles (Primary/Media) are combined and are impacted by this change in availability.

7.           Will Cohesity be shipping new Media Server only BYO packages for these versions?

A.           There are no plans to ship a Media Server only package for these out of Standard Support versions of NetBackup

8.           What about binaries and containers I or my customer may have already downloaded?

A.           After December 30, 2025, customers will not be able to deploy any new Primary Server instances or Primary Server containers using NetBackup pre-10.2 versions for expanding their NetBackup footprint.

B.           NetBackup Flex Scale users will not be able to add new nodes.  Customers are encouraged to upgrade to 10.5.0.1 or later prior to adding new nodes.

9.           What about containerized NetBackup (i.e. Flex and Flex Scale)?

A.           All 10.4.0.1 and earlier containers will be removed from the Download Center by December 31, 2025.  This is due to changes in 10.2 that were not fully adopted in containers until version 10.5.

B.           This does not change the support life for existing deployments of containers that are 10.2 through 10.4.0.1, only the availability of containers for new deployments

10.        If I have previously downloaded containers that are impacted by this action, can I still deploy new instances?

A.           Yes, for versions 10.2 through 10.4.0.1 only.

11.        If I have downloaded pre-10.2 NetBackup software (BYO) packages, can I use them to deploy new instances of Primary Servers?

A.           No.

12.        If I have downloaded pre-10.2 NetBackup software (BYO) packages, can I use them to deploy new instances of Media Servers?

A.           Yes.  Please note that the current EOSL policies and support models would still apply.

13.        I am a new customer.  Will I have access to the affected NetBackup versions?

A.           No.
