Problem

When the I/O module from the storage shelf fails or is removed, an alert is sent for each drive that shows the status as Degraded. After the I/O module issue is fixed, the same number of resolution emails are sent.

Error Message

The email alert includes content similar to the following:

  • The disk drive is either not always responding or not fully operational
  • Time of event: 2025-05-12 15:21:50 (+00:00)
  • UMI event code: V-475-500-0201
  • Component type: Disk
  • Component: ExpansionShelf 2 Drawer 0 Slot 12
  • Status: Degraded
  • State: WARNING
  • Additional information about this error is available at the following link:

Cause

When the I/O module fails or is removed, the data path to the drive is no longer redundant. Therefore, all of the drives go into a Degraded state, which is expected behavior.

As per the current design of the storage monitoring plug-in, separate alerts are sent for each of the drives, which results in a large number of alerts.

Solution

In this scenario, the alerts can be ignored.
