Problem

When upgrading the NetBackup Java console on a jump server, the installer is prompting to either specify a different path or uninstall the previous version.

Error Message

Custom install Path Required

Another version of the NetBackup Console already installed on this host at the following path:

  • Path: C:\Program Files\Veritas
  • Version: x.x.x.x

You must either specify a different path for installing the  current version of the NetBackup console,or uninstall the instance of the existing version.

By installing this version of the NetBackup Console, back-level administration consoles are also installed.

To specify a custom installation path, select the Custom installation type.

Cause

Due to changes in the Java version used in later versions of NetBackup (10.4 and higher), direct upgrades of the console using the same path are not possible.

Solution

The installer is working as designed. The change was necessary because 10.4 and higher no longer use Oracle JRE.

To install the Java Console at the upgraded version, either remove the previous version or use a custom installation path.

Note: It is recommended to uninstall the previous version to avoid having multiple Java types on the same system.
