Description
NetBackup Appliances
Veritas recommends that NetBackup Appliances only be port scanned. For security reasons, Login to the shell is “off” by default, making a credentialed scan ineffective. While port scanning or other network scanning should not cause issues, customers assume all risks when they perform security scans.
Veritas does not support the installation of third party software, including scanning agents, on any appliance. The NetBackup appliance software includes “Symantec Data Center Security: Server Advanced (SDCS)”, which effectively locks down any access to system binaries, except by identified and trusted applications or processes. Also, any login to the shell is disabled by default, making a credentialed scan ineffective.
NetBackup Flex/Access/Flex Scale Appliances
Veritas recommends that Flex/Access/Flex Scale Appliances and their application instances only be port scanned. For security reasons, login to the operating system shell is “off” by default at the host level, making a credentialed scan ineffective. While port scanning or other network scanning should not cause issues, customers assume all risks when they perform security scans.
Veritas does not support installation of third-party software, including scanning agents at the host level or in the instances. The appliance operating system is locked down to prevent any unauthorized changes. Any changes that are made to the instances outside of the provided user interfaces may not be preserved.
