Problem

NTFS corruption observed on original volume after snapback operation performed on volume created on top of Thin Provisioned reclaimable disks. Issue observed on InfoScale Windows 6.1 release and onward.

Error Message

NA

Cause

The issue occurs during reclaim operation initiated against NTFS TRIM HINT (generated due to Volume data delete operations) when active DCO associated with original volume.

Manual reclaim operations at the DG, Disk and Volume level do not encounter the issue.

The issue is not seen with InfoScale 6.0 and older versions of Storage Foundation for Windows (SFW).

Solution

This issue is currently under investigation by Veritas Technologies LLC. Pending the outcome of the investigation, this issue may be resolved by way of a patch or hotfix in current or future revisions of the software. However, this particular issue is not currently scheduled for any release.  If you feel this issue has a direct business impact for you and your continued use of the product, please contact your Veritas Sales representative or the Veritas Sales group to discuss these concerns.

Note: Customers experiencing this issue are encouraged to contact Veritas Technical Support as data is still being collected to assist in resolving this issue.

NTFS TRIM HINT can be disabled as a workaround for this issue.  To disable NTFS TRIM HINT run the following command from an Administrator Command Prompt:

   fsutil behavior set DisableDeleteNotify 1

The above command will effectively disable automatic reclaim operations.  Manual reclaim operations at the DG, Disk and volume levels will need to be run to reclaim space as needed.
