How to configure a Google Cloud bucket as a storage in Backup Exec

Description
 

1. Connect to Google Cloud Platform to create a bucket for use in Backup Exec
 


 

2. Click on create Bucket
 


 

3. Provide a globally unique name to this bucket and hit continue
 


 

4. Choose appropriate Location Type and continue
 


 

5. Choose appropriate Storage Class for the bucket and hit continue
 


 

6. Leave the defaults below and hit continue
 


 

7. Choose the defaults and hit create
 


 

8. Create the Service account whose Keys will be used as credentials in Backup Exec.
Using the Google Cloud Platform console launch IAM to create the service account
 


 

9. Click on Service Account section in IAM
 


 

10. Create Service Account with details as needed, then create and continue
 

 




11. Choose Storage Admin from Cloud Storage and hit Done. Storage Admin is the default role but another role with minimum permission can also be created and assigned to the service account.
 


 

 


Note: Below are minimum rights within Storage Admin ( if storage admin is not to be chosen ) that can be assigned to a role in IAM and mapped to a service account which can be used with Backup Exec.



 

12. Using GCP, Click Cloud Storage settings and hit interoperability
 


13. Under Service Account HMAC, click to create a key for another service account

 


 

14. Select the service account that was created and click create key
 


 

15. Use the below Access Key as username in Backup Exec while configuring the account which will be used to access and write to this cloud storage. The secret will be the password for the username.
 


Change to Backup Exec GUI and execute the rest of the steps.


16. Configure Storage in Backup Exec
Click Configure Cloud Storage from Backup Exec UI -> Storage Tab
 


17. Enter the name for the Google Cloud Storage in Backup Exec

 


18. Choose S3
 


19. Choose Google Cloud Storage, appropriate tier as chosen for the bucket which is created in GCP. Click on Add/Edit to add the Access Key and Secret generated for service account. Click ok and then next.
 

 



 


20. Choose and select the cloud bucket to be configured in Backup Exec and hit next.
 


21. Set concurrency as appropriate.
 


22. Click Finish and restart the Backup Exec Services to complete the cloud configuration.
 


23. The google cloud bucket is ready for use now. Configure a Backup Job with appropriate retention and start backing up the resources.
