Problem

Backup Exec Patch Failure "V-225-315: ERROR: StopBEServices failed with a value of 1603"

Error Message

The Patch update error gets reported in C:\Program Data\Veritas\Backup Exec\Logs\BKUPINSTXX.htm
XX is the version number of Backup Exec which is being patched.

Error in the BKUPINST.HTM file:

BackupExecLockdownServer service could not be stopped within the initial system timeout period.
ERROR: Failed to stop service - BackupExecLockdownServer. Elapsed time: 738125 ms. Error: VxLockdownServer.exe did not exit after about 11 minutes

Cause

The Backup Exec Lockdown Server service does not stop for the patch process to start.

Solution

Try the following steps if  various patch install attempts are failing with the above error:

1. Temporarily disable Lockdown from Backup Exec -> Configuration and Settings -> Backup Exec Settings -> Network and Security -> Disable Lockdown

2. Stop following Backup Exec Services from services.msc and set the startup type to disabled state.



3. Reboot the Backup Exec Server

4. Change the startup type of Backup Exec services to Automatic but do not start the services.

5. Start the manual patch Install and it should Install successfully. However, if any error is seen then review BKUPINSTXX HTM file.

6. Enable Lockdown from Backup Exec Settings
